Goran Samuel Pesic

Picture2Goran Samuel Pesic has many years of experience in political, economic, defence and security matters. He is an Associate, Head of Operations and Registered Lobbyist with David Pratt & Associates (DP&A), a government relations and strategic consultancy firm located in Ottawa, Canada.  Goran is also President of Samuel Associates Inc., where he provides strategic advice on specific issues and projects to a wide variety of clients in Canada and abroad.

Prior to joining DP&A, Goran was a senior executive with the Canadian Commercial Corporation (CCC), a Government of Canada agency mandated to facilitate international trade on behalf of Canada’s defence, aerospace and infrastructure industries. As a corporate director, Goran was responsible for providing strategic business and political advice to the executive leadership on risk management and international business development opportunities for Canadian industry.

While at CCC, Goran was selected for a senior Federal Government Executive Exchange Program to the Middle East with CAE Inc. As Director of Strategic Business Development and Government Relations for CAE Defence and Security, he was responsible for marketing and sales for Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates.

Prior to CCC and CAE, Goran was a senior political advisor to Canada’s Minister of International Trade. He provided strategic advice and recommendations to the Minister on Export Permit Controls and International Traffic in Arms Regulations. He advised on various Export Development Canada commercial transactions affecting Canada’s national interests. Goran was the lead advisor for Canada‐U.S. Trade Relations -commercial and defence. He also worked on policy issues relating to free trade negotiations with the European Union (EU), South Korea and the Trans-Pacific Partnership as well as Canada’s nuclear co‐operation agreements with various nations. Before International Trade, Goran was a political advisor to the federal Minister of Public Safety. He was responsible for Canada’s national security and emergency management policy and Canada‐U.S. security and intelligence relations.

Before politics, Goran was an executive director of two think‐tanks: the Atlantic Council of Canada and the Council on Transatlantic Relations. He established and maintained strategic partnerships with leading organizations such as NATO, the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe, the EU, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, the Organization for Economic Co‐operation and Development, the World Bank and policy think‐tanks in Canada and abroad.

Goran is a Fulbright Scholar from the University of California and holds a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and History from the University of Toronto.
